HTML and CSS only — no JavaScript.
Enter your WhatsApp number to generate the code. Just want the link?
https://wa.me/…
Paste it in an Instagram bio, an email signature or a QR code.
Three places people paste this.
WordPress
Appearance → Theme File Editor → footer.php, just before </body>. Or drop it into a Custom HTML block if you only want it on one page.
Shopify
Online Store → Themes → Edit code → layout/theme.liquid, immediately above </body>. It survives theme updates only if you use a theme app extension, so re-check after a theme change.
Webflow, Wix, Squarespace
Site settings → Custom code → Footer. All three have a “before body end” box that this is designed for.
Using Google Tag Manager instead? Create a Custom HTML tag, paste the same block, and fire it on All Pages. Leave “Support document.write” unticked.
Questions, answered.
Do I need a WhatsApp Business API account to use this?
No. The button is a plain wa.me link, so it works with a personal WhatsApp number, a free WhatsApp Business app number, or a number on the Cloud API. You only need the API when you want several people answering the same number from a shared inbox.
Where do I paste the code?
Anywhere in your page body — just before the closing </body> tag is the usual spot, and it works in a WordPress "custom HTML" block, a Shopify theme.liquid file, a Webflow embed, or a Google Tag Manager custom HTML tag. It is one block of HTML, CSS and (only if you turn the greeting card on) about fifteen lines of JavaScript.
Does it load anything from your servers?
Nothing. There is no script tag pointing at us, no tracking pixel and no external request — the code you copy is the whole thing. That also means we never see your number or your visitors: everything on this page runs in your own browser.
Will the pre-filled message be sent automatically?
No, and that is deliberate on WhatsApp’s side. The text lands in the visitor’s message box already typed; they still press send. It is useful for context — "Hi, I’m enquiring about the 2BHK on Green Street" tells you which page they came from.
Can I use one button for several agents?
A wa.me link points at exactly one number, so a second agent means a second number and a second button. That is the ceiling this tool hits: once more than one person needs to answer, you want the WhatsApp Business Cloud API and a shared inbox, which is what Watx does.
What happens on mobile?
The link opens the WhatsApp app directly. On desktop it opens WhatsApp Web or the desktop app. The button itself shrinks to a round icon under 480px so it does not sit on top of your content.
Built for people who
live in WhatsApp.
All free, no signup. When you outgrow copy-paste, Watx turns the same number into a shared inbox with broadcasts, automations and AI agents — on the official Meta WhatsApp Business Cloud API.
